Thu, Feb 18th, 2016 Mary Ann & Robert saw me at the St. Armand's Art Festival in Sarasota this past Fall. They saw my smaller tumbled stone ceramic wall art pieces and wanted one bigger. We chatted about ideas then made an appointment for a home visit.
From there we discussed what they like about the work, I took images of their home and textural & color inspirations and I was gone. That is often done on the phone and by photos, but it's always nice to do a home visit so see where the artwork will live.
Mary Ann and Robert discussed what they wanted, agreed to go forward and hired me to create a custom wall art piece for their hallway niche. Once the i's were dotted and t's crossed - the creation began. First there are drawings. I presented 4 drawings based on our discussions and my views. They selected #2 as the guide. Then the clay work began. I made 2 wall art pieces for their niche. Each one had different details, all of which we discussed at our meeting.
The process is underway. First the custom wall art tile dries on the shelves in the studio. After the bisque firing they head to the glazing table. About a week later the work is glazed and the kiln gets fired. The dry colors from the glaze are transformed in the second firing to the luscious and juicy colors you see, with layers and highlights dancing across the surface of this custom wall art. The transformation continues as the Tumbled Stone & Glass Waterfall Wall Art is framed and the final details are added.
I brought both pieces to Mary Ann & Rob's home and the selection was made within minutes. The more mysterious blue Stone & Glass Waterfall wins and goes on the wall.
