The studio is clean and our students are done. We had an incredibly diverse and complete experience exploring ceramic tile wall art in Italy.
It was a small but prolific and diverse group. From Switzerland to DC and NY to Italy, we spanned several countries and explored many hand made tile concepts.
Texture was a big part of our ceramic tile art exploration, as was dimension, color, learning about stains, engobes and spraying vs. painting & brushing.
Pinocchio kept visiting us. Kasse, from DC is a fan of folk art and created hand made tiles inspired by experiences on her European journey. Karen, our New Yorker, is studied in the sciences and loves the ocean; from volcanos to coral reefs, she went in many directions with her clay tile work. New to the medium, Karen did great work at this clay workshop in Italy.
Margot was inspired by her Swiss mountain range and a lakeside sunset. While Daniella, the native Italian among us, shared her love of dragons and her exploration of zen gardens. All this hand made tile art and wall art began with an idea and ended with a collection of wonderful creations at this clay tile workshop.
Everyone took the techniques learned and created their own signature style. This is the end of the beginning of many exciting things to come.
Thanks to all the participants for making this ceramic tile workshop in Italy happen. Thanks, too, to the La Meridiana crew, who make a visit into the hills of Tuscany a seamless tapestry of tasty delights, visual joys and a creative and life-altering experience.
I am honored & grateful to be a part of such a wonderful creation teaching clay tile making in Italy!
