Sat, Apr 18th, 2015 Lynne & Rich met me at an art show in downtown Sarasota in 2014 and though they liked my work, they were not ready to talk about artwork for their new home.
One year later we reconnected and the conversation about creating a custom piece for their Sarasota living room began! I visited their home to see the wall, their aesthetic and to begin designing an idea that would work for them.
This home has high ceilings and is filled with tall arches. The walls lend themselves beautifully to a dimensional wall tilesl and the light is fantastic. Lynne, in particular, loves texture and wants me to head deeply in that direction with this custom project. Rich is quieter with his ideas, but slowly we all began to come to an understanding of the feel the Tuckers are looking for in their handmade tile wall art piece.
Drawings are rendered and then adaptations are made. Now we're working with the concept, next we'll hone in on color. I offered to create 2 custom tile art pieces for Lynne & Rich, so they can select ONE that works best.
In May, both murals are complete and the glazing is underway. The first tile art is glazed with the color palette selected and sent in the deeper tones while the second tile art piece was glazed with the same palate, only brightening up the surface a bit more and adding more gloss to it.
Both pieces are finished, Now for the decision. The installation day was warm and beautiful. I brought both custom tile art pieces in and Lynne & Rich agreed it would be a hard decision. They really liked both renditions, one, however, kept pulling them in.
After some discussion I hung the first custom tile art work. We established where the art piece would go and I hung the mounting board on the wall. Then I asked my clients to leave the room. I like to savor the dramatic moment of entering the room and seeing the tile art in their home and on the wall for the first time.
Lynne and Rich entered the room and were both stopped by the. Impact. You can see this custom tile wall art from the bedroom door, the dining room, the kitchen and of course from the living room. You can even see it from the outside patio!
They immediately knew this was perfect....'you don't even have to hang the second one', they said, this one is ours. This wall mural, entitled River's Wild Dawn, looks beautiful in their new home.
Once again I am honored to take the journey of designing a tile art piece with my clients and as always, I am grateful to be such a prominent part of their homes.
