Thu, Oct 10th, 2013 October 7, 2013. Day 2
It was a brisk autumn morning, the fog holding onto the horizon with fierce determination. The 14 students got to know one another at last night's welcome dinner and this morning we enjoyed caffe and pastries together before the program began.
The real fun started as tom began doing a demo... There was so much enthusiasm for our lessons. I helped students with the learned techniques....and the 3 hours flew by.
A formal lunch of autumn squash on a bed of home-made penne pasta with grilled chicken & rosemary, finished off with a fresh salad and a light afternoon Local Tuscan wine....our first daily gourmet lunch at the school for this 2-week class.
Next....a trip to town for groceries. So many things in another culture are different; how to figure out which of the milks are the one you like...and learning about not touching the vegetables when shopping for food! It was so strange and great fun.
2 hours later we were back at the studio for an afternoon cafe and then back to work. I set up a coil demo for the hand builders and tom finished with the throwers. 3 more hours and 8pm was upon our doorstep.....the studio is closed. Time to go back to our apartment for a bite to eat and rest.
A long and wonderful first day...tomorrow I get to the wheel to explore the Yang part of our Yin and Yang of Clay - a workshop here at La Meridiana School of Ceramics in Tuscany, Italy.
