Wed, Sep 18th, 2013 It's been two years in the making and finally my Italian workshop in Tuscany is here. We begin the 14 day workshop, The Yin & Yang of Clay, at La Meridiana International School of Ceramics this month. This workshop intensive is held just outside the small town of Certaldo, which is 30 minutes north of Sienna, an hour south of Florence and about 3 hours from Cinque Terre.

Certaldo, Italy is in the rolling hills of northern Tuscany. La Meridiana International School of Ceramics is nestled in the hills of the region amongst cascading fields of grape arbors and olive groves. It is picturesque in a way that feels like an Italian storybook. There is a panoramic view of beautiful fabric-like rows of grape vines woven along the curving and turning hills. High above the vineyards, as though standing guard, stoic Cyprus trees frame the magnificent landscape. Beauty and inspiration are everywhere.
Our group of potters speaks many languages and hail from several countries. The sonnets of accents in the studio along with the echoes of Italian heard from nearby farms are like a subtle soundtrack behind this striking performance of real-life Italy.
We are 16 who have come together for the love of clay and travel. The inspiration of these next 2 weeks will be the unfolding of what we create together - an experience that will never be repeated, nor forgotten. I am grateful for the commitment of this group to have given themselves this time...and consequently me this experience. Of course I am thankful to Pietro and Claudia for our invitation into La Meridiana. Stay tuned for the building of an experience and the unfolding of a journey.
