Wed, Jun 27th, 2012 The first Design for Cathy & Keith is complete and here is the second.
With this design, they wanted a similar nature-scape, but with different texture on the horizon line and no texture on the top of the mural.
First you'll see the second design I offered up that they selected. I sketch out the idea, then I begin to create the sculptural volume to the piece. I work from left to right and back again, filling in and slowly the mural evolves.
Once it is leather hard, I come back and do the carving work. The hills are filled with the movement of this carving, flowing in and out along the horizon line.
The cutouts - moon images - are first cut, then textured. Everything is now on the drying racks and will be there for about a week until they are ready for the first bisque firing.
