1. HOW DOES THE COMMISSION PROCESS WORK?
Commissions always begin with a Conversation before we ever have a Commitment. Clients frequently have a location in mind and a 'feeling' of what they want, but they are often less clear on design & composition. 'I'll know it when I see it', is what I often hear. Here are some of the questions I'll ask:
-What do you like about the work?
- where can you envision the wall art in your home?
- what size & layout do you see working best for your home?
- what elements of the sculptural tile art do you like best, abstract, texture, botanicals, carving?
Once we've answered those questions both you and I become more clear on your aesthetic and what you would like to see in your home.
2. WHAT DOES A CUSTOM ORDER COST?
Each piece is priced separately, depending on the size, design and level of complexity. If you're ready to take the next step after our conversation, I will draw up an Estimate of Cost Proposal with an explanation of everything you can expect throughout the process.
At this point, you still have not made a Commitment, rather you are interested and exploring your options. Before sending the proposal I may ask a few more questions and take some photos, or have you send me some images of your home.
3. WHAT DOES YOUR PROPOSAL INCLUDE?
All proposals outline the parameters of the project from start to finish. The proposal also explains my creative process and lays out a timeline clients can expect. My full service approach to commissions is described including my online blog following the creation of the artwork for each commission.
A project estimate for the Wall Art along with delivery service and fees are included. Commissions are paid in thirds: one-third upon Artist-Client contract agreement; one-third payment at the project mid-point and final payment upon delivery.

4. WHAT IF I'M READY TO MAKE A COMMITMENT?
Congratulations! You've gone this far and you still love the idea of a Sculptural Wall Art tile for your home. Sign the contract enclosed in your proposal and send a deposit. We are officially working together. By this time you've spoken to me a few times, you have a sense of my work style, communication and aesthetic. Now the real fun begins.
Once you make the commitment, your wall art commission goes in queue. I'll give an estimate for the project beginning. Once that date is set, completion occurs 6-10 weeks later, depending on the size & complexity of your project and my schedule. One of the many beauties of this process is you get to watch me make your artwork, we have a personal relationship AND all payments are spread out over 2-4 months, making it easier to budget.
5. WHEN DOES THE CREATIVE PROCESS BEGIN?
The creative process begins with drawings. If you've come this far, I welcome you to the family of Brenda McMahon Ceramics. Thanks so much for joining me in this journey, I promise you will enjoy every step of the way.
First, before any clay is put on the table, I work on drawings for you. I'll sketch 2 ideas based on our discussions. You comment on the ideas, we tweak composition, change the direction of a river, add raw stones to the design and discuss color selections. The design element is most important at this point. We'll clarify color later.
We have begun and now you get to participate as much or as little as you like. Mostly, you get to watch the process unfold from start to finish. You are always welcome to chat with me anytime about our collaboration.
