Thu, May 26th, 2011 Hi Pat & Randy...
I've had a full week of glazing and firing. I fired 2 of your 3 murals for you to choose from.
Unloaded the kiln this morning and I'm pleased with the results. They are very close to the sample we're working from, with some variation. As I load your tiles into my kiln, one mural is lower in the kiln and thus, closer to the burner, and the other one is further from the burner (thus the heat).
The lower mural tends to be juicier because the glaze melted more - creating a shinier surface and deeper colors in your florals. The upper tile has same colors, with a bit more matte surface, some sheen, but less. The florals on the matte piece from the design stage, were softer & fewer to begin with. The blues are more muted as are the greens.
Take a look and let me know what you think. I have one more to fire. I can make it juicy and put it toward the bottom of the kiln, add color, remove color or go in another direction. If, however, you feel like one of these two is perfect - I will go in a completely new direction with the third piece, so I don't have too many similar ones for my inventory.
Here are the images - from glazing, to loading the kiln, unloading the kiln and laid out in the backyard. Remember they will be mounted on a matte black frame, so the lines in between all the tiles will be like the sample, which I have also attached.
As always, click on the pictures and read the text to follow the process.
Enjoy and please give feedback. I'd like to fire the final one early next week.
